Hey there, Beautiful Human!
Never say never because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion. – Michael Jordan
I saw this quote today and it made me think about how we spend so much time stopping ourselves before we even give ourselves the chance to begin. We talk ourselves out of our greatness by listening to the limiting thoughts we create in our minds.
We think these confining thoughts we’re having are facts about who we are, what we can do, what we are capable of having, what others will do, etc. We find proof for our limiting beliefs by recalling times we didn’t succeed or by inventing potential pitfalls and challenges we may face. We look for evidence to support our perceived limitations, and miraculously we find it because that is our focus. And then, we BELIEVE the story we’ve created in our minds.
Well, guess what, my dear friends? Michael Jordan is correct. The limits you place on yourself ARE ILLUSIONS. . . stories you tell yourself. Even if you had a similar situation in the past where you didn’t succeed as planned, that doesn’t mean you won’t succeed this time! Seriously.
Contrary to popular belief, past performance DOES NOT dictate future performance when you understand that your brain is in fact the key to your success. Don’t allow it to stay in the same silly thought loop just because it’s a habit.
Your brain is a brilliant tool and you can use it to your advantage. It’s simply a matter of retraining it to think thoughts that support your desires, rather than hindering your growth and transformation.
When we think about people like Michael Jordan and their success, we may say to ourselves…yea, but. . .
These thoughts are true! Do you know why? Because the people like Michael Jordon BELIEVE them to be. There’s nothing more special about these people than you. The thing they do that takes them to the next level is that they believe in themselves and are committed to maintaining their healthy thoughts.
When things don’t go exactly as planned, these people don’t quit, they learn from what took place and keep moving forward. These people understand that getting bogged down in the limiting thoughts and feelings only cause them to move away from what they want. These people CHOOSE thoughts and emotions that take them in the direction of their goals.
Those statements above are true about each of us, as well, if we want them to be. Beliefs are simply thoughts that we keep thinking over and over again. So take those ridiculous illusions you have and transform them into LIMITLESS thoughts!
This practice isn’t about being positive, it’s about working the brain and training it to think beneficial thoughts. It starts with becoming aware of your limiting thoughts and beliefs, and then deciding if you really want to keep them. If you don’t, and I’m sure that’s the case, you will want to gently stop the thought as it arises and invite a new and improved thought to come in. This thought should be one you can hold onto that feels believable and better than the old one. In this way, you can begin the process of moving from beliefs that limit to BELIEFS that LIBERATE.
Have a beautiful day!
